Hostgator Review by usmle – Script Problems
Reviewed on September 14th, 2009 Find moreBack in July 2009 I started a forum website and by mistake I hosted with a
company called Siteground.
After few days I realized that I’ve done a big mistake by hosting with a company
that has not received great feedback.
So I was told that Hostgator is the best…
I tested that out by calling the phone support and trying out the chat and it seemed that Hostgator is the real answer for me and I was happy. So I signed up for a business account. I wanted to transfer the domain but they said that ur domain should be at least 60 days old with the previous host, so I waited.
During that time I spoke with a tech support and he told me that all my files are now with hostgator and I can do what I ever I like using my hostgator cPanel. But it turned out, that’s not the case! files were still there in Siteground.
Anyway I said let me wait until the domain is transferred.
When the 60 days finished I initiated the transfer request within less than a day the Whois info was updated to hostgator which is great.
Then I tried to access the website using hostgator cPanel and found out that I can’t make any changes I change the nameserver.
So I changed the nameserver, and guess what, my website reverted back to a point in time when exactly I started hosting with hostgator!
I contacted support and nobody gave me a solution … then after thorough research I realized that I have to backup the website via cPanel in my old host and ask hostgator to restore for me that file.
So I did and they did …
This time the email is not working (have no access to it and cannot create new emails).
They said, the backup file that is restored has messed up with the website structure in a way that the email will not work on hostgator server! After several telephones, an admin finally corrected the problem and I was happy as now everything is hosted with hostgator.
Then I realized that my website (which uses vBulletin software just like this forum) has no URL redirect working anymore (I have vbSEO which redirect php pages to virtual folders and html pages).
So now my website is virtually in accessible and the Google links are pointing to blank pages!
Contacted support, they said that’s not our problem!!!
Finally, I decided to switch back to my old host leaving hostgator forever
