Hostgator Review by iaent – All Files under my Domains deleted by HostGator – Deliberately
Reviewed on January 19th, 2010 Find moreIts very disappointing to mention here again that hostgator hasn’t stopped its nasty activities. I bought a ‘baby’ shared hosting account almost 2 years back. My account had grown upto 8GB within this time. Now I planned to move on the reseller hosting accountof he company where i work. On 16th Jan, an email to HG support was sent for restoring my baby account’s backup on reseller’s hosting.
But instead of restoring backup hostgator have deleted all my files under all my domains/folders including the backup file. So the hardwork I did in last 2 years has been destroyed. I am hoping that I shall get a solution on this as soon as possible. -
Hostgator Review by hhstudio – Billing issues [resolved]
Reviewed on January 13th, 2010 Find moreWell I will start by saying that I do owe money and my account is suspended. I am currently getting ready to move to a different service provider for VPS as the new provider is more willing to work in situations where the account is suspended if we get it suspended.
Host gator used to be good about helping us out and giving us extra time when we needed it, and we always paid when we said we would.
This last time we asked for a couple of days just get to some backups off the server or asked that they provide backups to the sites for us but they are refusing to help us out in any way shape or form when it comes to that all they could say is we have VPS solutions.
Now why would I want to keep myself in the same area where they are not willing to work with me now why in the heck would I stay for the VPS with the same company.
I also do not like having to charge clients or eat $10 to install SSL’s when I could go to one of a millions hosts who do not charge for SSL installs because they give you the option to do it yourself.
So if you want to eat costs for SSL installs or charge clients for doing something to make their customers safer choose Hostgator.
That has bugged me for some time but have been willing to over look it until this stuff came up. Now I am frustrated and I think it is vary stupid that they will not allow us to retrieve backups of our sites, not theirs ours.
If I have to I will explain to the customers that have not left that the reason they will have to start their sites again is because the backend host is unwilling to work with us and then let the clients come this way.
This is why so many people do not like reseller hosts because the backend host provider would rather give the client the run around rather than help. I have read many other posts on here about being given the run around and i have had the run around too.
Also have had the different answers based on who you talk to.
I will say I would not recommend hostgator to a single person in fact right now I would tell everyone to stay away from hostgator and not used them.

Hostgator Review by Onedreamer – Dissatisfied
Reviewed on January 3rd, 2010 Find moreI started a new account a while ago. There was all sorts of problems causing timeouts on my site whenever like 5 people viewed it at the same. For a long time Hostgator denied there was anything wrong even though I repeatedly reported it.
Finally one technician found that there was an error made by Hostgator on my account. Instead of timeouting when 5 ppl was visiting the site simultaneously that value should have been 500 or something (dont remember the exact value but it was mistakenly set -way- too low) so Hostgator admitted they had made a serious mistake.
At that time I had spent hundreds of dollars on adsense promotion, for nothing because most of my visitors had received timeouts.
Then there was a problem with my paypal subscription and my site got suspended. Not sure wether it was paypals or hostgators fault but at that time I was fed up with the whole thing and let it rest.
Yesterday, I thought I would give it another go, since I remember I had a 50 dollar adsense coupon on my account. I paid the fee in my billings center. Site: still suspended. Called support. They said I had to pay for the month it had been suspended too, plus late fee of 10usd. I sighed, but agreed to pay it.
So yesterday I got a mail saying, site is now unsuspended.
I now have paid like 50 dollars in fees for a site that has only had problems caused by Hostgator from the start, plus what I paid for promoting it.
Anyway, I went to my cpanel to collect the adsense coupon from hostgator this summer. I was shocked to see that it was now only valid for US and Canadians. I am sure it was not when I first signed up (it was partially why I signed up in the first place in the summer.)
I sighed and logged off, thinking I would start working on the site again today since I had paid it.
Logged on today, only to see that the site is suspended again. No explanation given..

Hostgator Review by websitesareus – We host over 50 websites with Hostgator and are very happy
Reviewed on January 2nd, 2010 Find moreAs web designers we host all of our own websites and many customer websites at Hostgator (it’s probably more than 50 different accounts we have set up with Hostgator within the last 2 years). Hostgator is hands down the best web hosting company we know (and we have worked with many of heir competitors as some clients already have a hosting account somewhere else).
Here are out top 5 reasons why we love Hostgator:
* They are honest and not pushy and don’t try to upsell you stuff you don’t need when you open a new account, and you don’t get annoying sales calls after you order
* The servers are very reliable, we have never had any noticeable downtime, nor were we ever ‘locked out’ of accounts (with others, our IP address gets frequently banned when we test websites)
* All websites we host with Hostgator are secure and were never hacked (you wouldn’t believe how often websites get hacked with cheap shared hosting accounts at g*****y and *and*)
* Hostgator has all you need and more included in each plan,: state-of-the art software, templates, unlimited email accounts and much more, and the cpanel is the easiest way to manage and monitor websites. (We can’t believe that another well-known competitor g*****y still runs PHP 4 by default, and you have to jump through loops to get programs to run, and have to pay extra for a second email address…)
* Technical support at Hostgator is OUTSTANDING, all US-Texas based, very knowledgeable, and you can reach them 24/7. Every issue we ever had was solved instantly. We love the online chat, because you can copy and paste error messages, and it helps getting problems resolved fast.
As web professionals’ we like to think that what we demand from a web hosting company and the technical questions we have are a little more ’sophisticated’ than those of an ‘average’ consumer. This is why we think, Hostgator’s web hosting and their support is truly outstanding.
