2 months back , I shifted to hostgator because my previous host actually ran away with all the money. I had paid him for a year in advance.

His support wasn’t great , there were downtime every now and then .

Once I move to hostgator , i have actually forgot the word “down time” and love their 24-7 support. The support is just so polite and ready to help any time and every time.

    Great going hostgator.

I’ve been with HostGator off and on for various business ventures for some three years now. When I think hosting, I think HostGator. I’ve never seen an outage and I’ve never had an issue with support. I’ve even seen resolution within 4 minutes!

That is, until I went to a dedicated server and simply wanted the exact same setup I had within a shared and reseller account… and was denied.

It seems simple, moving to a dedicated. $219 a month for a pre-configured server with WHM/Cpanel; I expected the same technologies found in my previous accounts. But, the dedicated server lacked ImageMagick, mssql, sqlite, and sqlite2. I asked support if these could be configured, as they created the image and know it far better than I do. It’s so well locked down (not really complaining about that) that installs require a ton of work-arounds.

My focus is on providing a premium service to clients who would expect their current sites to be transfered over to work. We provide eCommerce guidance. I’m not trying to be a server expert, that’s why I chose HostGator for my dedicate server and not The Planet. The reason for the dedicated was not to learn how to manage a server, but to provide reliable service where we could guarantee the number of accounts on a machine and know who else was on the machine.

This is the first time I’ve had a negative feeling towards HG. And the hardest part, in trying to find answers as to how to get all these technologies “restored”, I found numerous recommendations for dedicated providers who installed these for their clients and explained to them how they did it.

I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that I can’t be provided with a like product when upgrading from one to the other. I know some things like Mod Security settings may be proprietary, but free software isn’t (or am I wrong and these extensions aren’t free? – Thus far, I’ve barely been able to get ImageMagick working). I dunno, I guess I’m looking for more explanation than I can get from Support and turn this into a 100% positive review for HG on all account types.

  • Hostgator Review by InterCaf – From shared to reseller, bad exprience with servers.

Reviewed on October 20th, 2009 webhost Find more

First I would like to say that hostgator support has been always friendly, so no problems there

Currently my reseller account is located over Panamera server, we moved from shared to reseller about week ago (15th to be exact, if I remember right), while we were with shared server was down only couple times which didnt bother us too much but moving to reseller we have exprienced quite rollercoaster with our server.

Panamera has been down almost every day for 10 minutes and sometimes more/less, alto we havent yet launched any of our services we´re abit worried to launch them if server is going nuts every other day even for short amount of time, it´s really important for us to promise working environment for our users which seems to be impossible if this keeps happenning. Hopefully theres something that can be done.

  • Hostgator Review by ntj9 – Hostgator are THE MOST RELIABLE WEB HOST WE’VE EVER USED!!

Reviewed on October 10th, 2009 webhost Find more

Before a friend told me about you we were with a few web hosts and our website would go down all the time and I couldn’t receive email a lot of the time (when the site was down obviously email was out the game too).

I remember one time I was waiting on a crucial email which involved us getting a significant contract and time was of the essence. We were with HostingZoom at the time and the site and email were going down all the time. We nearly lost the contract through it.

Anyway, since we’ve been with Hostgator all these problems have dissapeared. Solid as a rock (and that’s on shared hosting

  • Hostgator Review by cslactrn – Renewing domain name on due date results in Porn site!

Reviewed on October 4th, 2009 webhost Find more

I am extremely unhappy to have just thrown good money away by renewing with Hostgator!

I renewed my domain name and hostgator accounts on October 2nd at 11:43 MDT and got my receipts from both hostgator and paypal. The domain was due to expire on October 3rd.

So… Hostgator releases my domain name and parks it on a PORN advertising site.

Their response is… oh well your domain expired and enom.com has the right to park it on any site they please. You should have sent an email to sales to tell them that you renewed. That’s all your responsibility. Doesn’t matter that they got the money.

I’m furious and upset that my customers and clients will be seeing this PORN advertising website until Hostgator gets their collective heads out of their collective butts.

And the whole lack of responsibility thing… upsetting and sad. Pathetic really. Probably no webhost is responsible anymore, but I’m going to be looking.

Figured that any prospective customers need to be aware to inspect the TOS very closely to find out that hostgator can do this to you do. And that they have the capability to set a default dns page for enom.com but they choose to let enom.com park a domain on a porn website. Hostgator has the capability but chooses not to do it. Very telling. And again something that prospective customers need to know.

  • Hostgator Review by posmatic – Good price, but mediocre everything else.

Reviewed on October 1st, 2009 webhost Find more

After about 2 years of evaluation, I’m about ready to voice my opinions on Hostgator and its services.

We are currently on the Reseller Plan. And we are starting to get more and more e-commerce development projects. We moved our e-comm development to Magento recently and are currently hosting 3 of our clients on Hostgator servers.

In the beginning we were somewhat satisfied. The main reasons being that 1) we didn’t work with Magento back then 2) we had a separate dedicated server hosted in-house.

As of late, there has been a lot of down times. Although some of them I can totally understand. Such as applying security fixes on the servers. But at the same time, these down times should have been notified via email to AT LEAST the reseller customers. The response I got after informing the cs rep at Hostgator was that I should have checked the forums.

After 2 years, I just created my account and this is my very first post. So that pretty much states that I’ve never checked the forums. I just don’t have the time to. Although all clients should be notified directly, reseller customers are a bit more important I believe. Reason being is that we have other clients under us.

When down times happen, our clients are yelling at us – and in turn ruins our credibility. At the least, if we gave them a notice – it wouldn’t be as bad.

Now, the biggest letdown for us has been the POOR PERFORMANCE of Magento on Hostgator’s servers. With Magento becoming ever more popular, I would have figured Hostgator would have optimized their servers by now.

Although I understand that there can be other things to be considered, as such optimizations can have side-effects in terms of security, server load and etc – I believe Hostgator could have found a solution that’s beneficial for all.

Due to Magento being such a resource hog, there are plenty of optimizations that can(need) be done. But the problem is that most of them aren’t possible unless you’re on a dedicated server. Lately there are more and more shared servers that provide these performance upgrades. For such a popular hosting company, Hostgator should have been ahead of the times and made the appropriate optimizations earlier.

We have waited and waited. And now, our patience has depleted. We are currently getting ready to move all our clients over to another hosting provider. It really is a shame this couldn’t work out. But 2 years has been pretty frustrating and now we’re ready to move on.
