  • Hostgator Review by 1hipchick – Newbie who loves the support from host gator!

Reviewed on September 30th, 2009 webhost Find more

I am still pretty green about most web stuff, basically I know enough to get myself in *deep* trouble. This happened this past week while trying to install osCommerce, a template, and then modify it. I was contacting the HG support several times a day, over several days, and they were always very patient and kind. They never made me feel like I was a bother. In the end, I asked them to refresh my cPanel so I could start from scratch. Hopefully I’ll get it right this time.

Just wanted to share my experience with others who are new to this stuff and may be hesitant about getting the support they need to move forward. I have been extremely pleased with host gator’s support!

  • Hostgator Review by provida1 – Account Activation [resolved]

Reviewed on September 29th, 2009 webhost Find more

Hello, as a regular Host Gator customer I always purchase the Shared Business hosting package for my clients that have had a website designed by me.

This package is always activated with 20 minuets or less and the free private SSL is activated usually within 12 hours which means in under a day I am ready to hand over the website.

I was very disappointed to find that when I created another business account yesterday that I did not have my account activated before midnight (purchased my account at 3PM)

Now 24 hours later and my account is still pending; I was then extremely disappointed to learn that the reason for this was Host Gator offering 1 Year free hosting had backed up the pending department, as a loyal ‘Paying’ customer (I pay for all my accounts monthly) I don’t think its fair to shove me to the back of the queue and allow all these ‘free for a year’ accounts be activated before a paying customer. I highly doubt that these free customers will start paying after 1 year. and their for think that their should have been 2 teams in the activation department 1 for paying customers and 1 for the new free for a year customers.

Although I will of course continue to use Host Gator which I find to be the best host I have ever used, I feel extremely let down on this occasion.

  • Hostgator Review by kickindaspeaker – Hostgator support rocks!

Reviewed on September 23rd, 2009 webhost Find more

A coupe of weeks ago I had some issues with Host Gator and complained about it publicly in this forum. The issues were swiftly taken care of and my problem is now resolved.

Now yesterday I had a new problem and asked HostGator support for help. Turns out my problem had strictly nothing to do with HostGator and their service, but was a problem with my files and my coding. Well the team still looked at it, searched for a solution and found one on google, sent me the link with an explanation on how I should fix my code.

Now THAT’s support. Most other companies would have simply said “not an issue on our side, the issue is on your side, deal with it”.

So this time I wanted to take the time to publicly say, THANK YOU HostGator support team, you guys rock.

An old Wordpress install on one of my sites got exploited and over-wrote my .htacess and caused google to report my sites as ‘this site can harm your computer’

HG went out of their way and did lot of work to fix all the problems. I have experiences with other webhosts before HG, who I know will not do this.

  • Hostgator Review by cptbob123 – Hostgator bringing apache down with no warning

Reviewed on September 17th, 2009 webhost Find more

So I asked hostgator if they could help me in getting custom php.ini files for users…

    My first chat: (984000)
Apart from not even listening to me, I clearly stated what server I am on (dedicated) you updated a different server. Then when we found out the right server made changes… Which didn’t work

I then went back on chat to see why, the chat guy (can’t rememeber who and haven’t got a note of the ID) mentioned I didn’t have suphp installed. So I said ok, lets get that installed as I want custom php.ini files for users.

    A ticket is created: NKC-12466827
the ticket mentions the wrong server.

Now apache has gone down!!!!! Why was I not made aware that apache was going to go down. If it was made aware of this, I would of scheduled something for when clients are not using the system?

  • Hostgator Review by usmle – Script Problems

Reviewed on September 14th, 2009 webhost Find more

Back in July 2009 I started a forum website and by mistake I hosted with a
    company called Siteground.
After few days I realized that I’ve done a big mistake by hosting with a company
that has not received great feedback.
So I was told that Hostgator is the best…
I tested that out by calling the phone support and trying out the chat and it seemed that Hostgator is the real answer for me and I was happy.

So I signed up for a business account. I wanted to transfer the domain but they said that ur domain should be at least 60 days old with the previous host, so I waited.

During that time I spoke with a tech support and he told me that all my files are now with hostgator and I can do what I ever I like using my hostgator cPanel. But it turned out, that’s not the case! files were still there in Siteground.

Anyway I said let me wait until the domain is transferred.

When the 60 days finished I initiated the transfer request within less than a day the Whois info was updated to hostgator which is great.

Then I tried to access the website using hostgator cPanel and found out that I can’t make any changes I change the nameserver.

So I changed the nameserver, and guess what, my website reverted back to a point in time when exactly I started hosting with hostgator!

I contacted support and nobody gave me a solution … then after thorough research I realized that I have to backup the website via cPanel in my old host and ask hostgator to restore for me that file.

So I did and they did …

This time the email is not working (have no access to it and cannot create new emails).
They said, the backup file that is restored has messed up with the website structure in a way that the email will not work on hostgator server!

After several telephones, an admin finally corrected the problem and I was happy as now everything is hosted with hostgator.

Then I realized that my website (which uses vBulletin software just like this forum) has no URL redirect working anymore (I have vbSEO which redirect php pages to virtual folders and html pages).

So now my website is virtually in accessible and the Google links are pointing to blank pages!

Contacted support, they said that’s not our problem!!!

Finally, I decided to switch back to my old host leaving hostgator forever
