Hostgator Review by mrcgiguy – Hostgator went out of their way
Reviewed on May 29th, 2009 Find moreI’ve been running a dedicated server with Hostgator for over 5 years now. For the most part everything has been good. When trouble has occured, generally tech support has been reasonably quick to respond.
Last month there was some server down time that went far longer than what I deemed reasonable (3+ hours). Mostly, it was the lack of communication and attention to the urgency of the problem that really bothered me. I have some clients who’s business comes to a screetching halt when the server is down. And when that happens, they let me have it. I in turn rely on expedience from Hostgator. In this situation they dropped the ball.
So, I had a really bad/very frustrating experience and I let Hostgator know about it. And what occured afterwards is something that every business should take note of. Not only was I contacted by a customer representative, but also by Brent the CEO of Hostgator. It’s not often these days that a CEO of a company Hostgators size personally takes the time to see to it that an individual customer is taken care of. But that is exactly what happened.
Hostgator went above and beyond to provide my business with a better solution for the future. They spent the better part of two late nights/early mornings upgrading my server and ensuring that downtime was kept to a minimum and that the downtime that was required was done during off hours so not to disturb my clients businesses.
Thank you Hostgator for restoring my confidence in your company, as well as the server that is the backbone of my company.

Hostgator Review by conceptskateboarding – Transfer issues [resolved]
Reviewed on May 28th, 2009 Find moreI used the upgrade form to upgrade my baby package to the aluminium reseller package. I was told that I can make my new domain the primary domain for this package and have the domain I was using on the baby package as a add on domain.
I was also told they can transfer and set this up for me for free. So i got a email saying I will be updated when it’s done. It was around 12 hours when i decided to look for a reply but I didn’t have any so I started the live chat to see if anyone can check my progress. I explained everything to the staff member and they told me “are you aware this will cost extra for this transfer” so I told him that the other person said it was free, so he went to double check this and said “it might cost extra” then after asking for a straight answer he said “it will cost extra” again so im really confused about what’s going on. He told me to explain this on my support ticket but i haven’t got a reply….

Hostgator Review by boss – Wouldnt recommend them
Reviewed on May 27th, 2009 Find moreYou cant even use certain PHP functions & settings, & cant chmod 777, which can be required with most scripting languages, and dont even say 755 will work, it wont.
I used hostgator as a hobby for testing my scripts, and left a few files on the account that I absolutely need. I didnt pay for last month, because I wasnt happy with the service… and now I cant get my files, they refuse to give me the files that I had on the account till I pay.
I have proprietary code on that account and need it back… so buyer beware, hostgator will extort your own ****ing code for your money
also, their phone “representatives” are all *******s.

Hostgator Review by wii – Hostgator Blocking Google
Reviewed on May 27th, 2009 Find moreWell, for about 2-3 weeks all my sites were blocked by Hostgator, the issue was eventually fixed a few days ago, but this is really serious. I read some other posts from other users about this matter several months. I wonder how many sites were blocked ?
Many of my sites are still not appearing in Google, and I spent many hours making them as SEO friendly as possible, I’m actually looking into finding another host, this is totally unacceptable

Hostgator Review by stevenh – HostGator, I can’t believe how responsive your helpdesk is.
Reviewed on May 25th, 2009 Find moreI was having trouble installing a script on my shared account today and kept getting an error 403. I posted a ticket with the helpdesk and fully expected to wait at least a few hours (and possibly have to get on the phone or use live chat) to get the situation straightened out. To my surprise, I got an answer back in less than 2 minutes from a “Level 2 Systems Administrator” letting me know exactly what the problem was (flagging a rule in mod_security) and that the problem had been fixed for me. I’ve never had such fast response from any other host when I needed tech support for something like this.
One more reason to love HostGator (as if “unmetered everything” for $10/month wasn’t enough.. lol).

Hostgator Review by Nijinsky – Two accounts on HG and very satisfied
Reviewed on May 24th, 2009 Find moreThe sign-up process was a bit clumsy but the tech support here is very quick, not condescending in any way, but understanding, knowledgeable and, did I say quick? I have gotten turn-around replies in less than 5 minutes.
I migrated here from Lunarpages, and this is like a whole new universe (no pun intended) (but not a bad one when you think about it)
I think Hostgator could make the sign-up procedure a little more smooth, like easing the restrictions on charectors in the username and password.
The actual hosting service (FTP has good upstream speeds, better CPanel, excellent page load times) all has been top notch so far and the support is really amazing.
