  • Hostgator Review by jtwhite – Amazing!

I’ve been with HostGator for a few months now. I have the Baby package. I have yet to experience any problems except high server loads. The server load reaches 7 and 8 at times. Usually this is a bad sign but it doesn’t appear to slow my site down.

I love the live chat support option, it’s very convenient. I have used the email support option as well, it is also good. I don’t particularly like the phone option.

I love having “unlimited” space and bandwidth, although I only use about 50 MB space and 400 MB transfer. It works for me because I know I’ll never consume 25% of the memory, especially for more than 90 seconds.

The cost is very well placed. I feel $9.95 a month for the features is great.

I love HostGator and I can’t wait to grow with them.

Good job employees! You’ve made a customer very happy.

After two weeks of research I decided that HostGator appeared to have the best customer service and options I was looking for in a website. It was probably 10 pm CST when I decided to take the plunge and ran into my first difficulty. I understood that I could register a domain for 10 years but it was only giving me the option for a single year. I clicked the Live Help and surprisingly was immediately connected to a person. Very pleased about that. He wasn’t able to change it from 1 year to 10 but told me to email sales and ask them for a 9 year renewal with a copy of the chat log from our session. I asked about the discount coupon I used to register with and asked if it could be applied to the 9 year renewal since I did in fact want the whole 10 years. He said that I would have to include that in my email to sales. Finished my registration and hosting package checkout, received my receipt, and then wrote sales my email.

The sales person responded and was able to answer one question about logging into my domain but when I mentioned my coupon and my 9 year renewal he said that the discount does not apply to domain registration, only to hosting fees.

I was surprised. On my receipt it clearly shows that the discount was applied to both and nowhere on the coupon does it state “hosting fees only”. So that is what I responded, in a nutshell.

This is where it goes downhill.

A different person replies to my ticket and states that the billing system incorrectly applies the discount and that if I would prefer, the $3 I was “undercharged” could be put on my 9 year renewal invoice.

To me, the comment was totally unprofessional, rude, and snide. How could he imagine that after such a comment that I would even want to continue my business relationship with HostGator and assume that I would want the 9 year renewal? I hadn’t (at that point) even been a customer for 24 hours and I am well within my rights to cancel and move elsewhere.

Instead, he should have simply apologized for the error in billing and said that regretfully the discount does not apply for domain registrations. Would I still like to purchase my renewal for $135?

This experience has left me sick and sucked the joy out of owning my first, very own website.

The ticket is DII-4260033 if you would like to take a look at it and perhaps ask him what was going through his mind when he made that response to me.

I am so happy, ecstatic, even elated that I found Hostgator!!!

My hosting history in short, starts with a lifetime hosting plan I bought from a company that I can no longer remember their name. I found out that their definition of lifetime hosting was about 3 years, since they stopped paying their bills and their provider shut them down with no notice to me or others (since there was a lot of chatter about them on Web Hosting Talk in the aftermath).

From there I found someone who was willing to give me a great deal on hosting because he felt bad about what happened. He was a start-up, very willing to help and had, at the time, the only live support via MSN IM. This work well for a while until he decided hosting was not for him and sold his company to another service called Nextbox Hosting. Their service went way down hill, but soon enough I found out that this was not the worst of it since they soon became Future Hosting.

Future Host, my service before Hostgator, was so piss poor that they actually removed their TOC and 99.9% up time guarantee from their website in fear that people would use it and I did. My average up-time fell to 75-80% for almost 4 months in a row. After the first month, being told by them that I was crazy and didn’t know what I was talking about, I started monitoring my website with 2 independent website status tracking services (siteuptime and aboutmyx) and the next 3 month I was credited for Future Hosting’s downtime because I had to independent reports showing I was not crazy.

After the first month I started looking for a new host but I couldn’t find any that even came close to the package I had for the money I was paying, basically unlimited everything for $9.95. Then a funny thing happened and made it kind of worth staying even with the downtime cancer they seemed to suffer. They stopped billing me all together; in fact I still have IP access there to this day and could put a site up if I wanted.

I continued to cautiously look for a better host and but things started getting better at Future Hosting and for almost a year it was not bad… for being free, but there support really sucked and if anything went wrong it was like pulling teeth to get it taken care of.

So after reading a lot of good things about HostGator I decided to try them out. Oh my Gawd! What a difference! I know, I know, I came from one of the worst nightmare hosting service out there, but WOW!

I had an issues with my email account and it was solved quickly and in an understandable, patient form. The point is that this issue was not caused by hostgator (nor by me, for a change) but by my ISP. Nevertheless hostgator via live chat helped me with a work around and all is back to normal again. Comparing this to my previous web host, the situation there would have been “solved” with “sorry, your issue is caused by a third party and we can’t help you” i.e. not solved at all.
So I nominate ShaunST from live chat tech support to be re-baptized as St.Shaun!

It’s been about half a year or so now and I have not yet had one problem with my website so would like to first note how good the up-time is.

The Fantastico is great, having all sorts of things I need and use.
And what intrigues is that even when my internet is capped (yes, we have bandwidth limits here) and the speed is only running at 28.8kpbs to 64kpbs, my online shop still loads relatively well. Sure, it’s simple but I’m sure glad as hell it is and works fast. Though not as fast as I wish like when I’m at full speed. Darn.

Also, whenever I had some little issues or what not, live support was able to give me the answers I needed, though sometimes I think they couldn’t understand me completely. Maybe it’s my Australian.

Tickets have always been resolved, even if they may have been tedious questions or chores for the person on the support end to do for me. Although same issue as above. Must be the Australian. :P

But nevertheless, thank you for the friendly support and quality service provided.

  • Hostgator Review by gonecase – Best shared host supportwise – Hostgator Dedicated Server Review

Reviewed on March 24th, 2009 webhost Find more

I had posted the review a week back but for some reason everything went bazook with WHT. I lost all my posts but am making an attempt to write the review again of my exp with HG.

Well, I had been with these guys for close to 14 months. I never knew there was bright world beyond HG for dedicated server untill I came to WHT. I had taken a xeon 2.4 with 2 gb ram for $219 everything was fine untill the server started giving me problems off late. It was supposed to be a managed server but these guys had just no clue whatso ever on any kinda problem. The took like close to 12 hours just to figure out the problem which was an issue with fan.

Imagine they were putting the blame game on me till they figured out it was a problem with the hardware(fan). When I went to claim refund for meeting the SLA, they told me that it was my fault and the onus was on me to ensure the server is up and running. WTF? How do you expect me find and why do you think I took managed service if the onus was on me to make sure the server is up and running.

That wasn’t the end of my horror story. I don’t remember the number of times I had to suffer with restarting the Apache / Mysql and downtime and when I did goto them, they said my RAM usage is too much. Hmmm when I further digged out and I felt cheated when I found out that they gave me a cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM which is way outdated technology. I was like WTF? All those problems were because of that Cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM for which they were charging me a bomb.

Imagine they gave me a trash Hardware and charging me a bomb for that crap and they kept blaming me for it.

I scrapped my Xeon 2.8 to Q9550 for a bit more but it was worth it.

My advice in cause you wanna still goto HG, Enquire everything about their Hardware, SLA as.
