Hostgator Review by wildweasel – Thanks Again
Reviewed on January 18th, 2009 Find moreIt seems that everytime I post to this particular forum, I am thanking someone for pulling my butt out of the fire. This time a big thank you goes to the Network Security team, in particular, Michael Karr. I got a strange email yesterday morning telling me one of my clients had changed the password to their wordpress site.Thats strange I thought. I checked the site and to my disappointment, the site had been hacked.I got online with hostgator chat and was instructed to contact Security immediately. Well, I figured I was in for a long day rebuilding a client site, but after 6 or 7 emails from Michael, and about 30 minutes work from me, the site was back up in about 3 hours and the client doesn’t even know it was down.Michael even re-set my password for me when I couldn’t figure out how to do it. Now folks, thats service! and on a Saturday morning! Thank you Michael, and thank you Hostgator, I hope you have more like Michael around the next time I need help.

Hostgator Review by edko – Most Excellent Service !
Reviewed on January 17th, 2009 Find moreHostGator has given me excellent service over this past 11 months.
Tech support folks through the ticket system have always been very helpful and have responded quickly. They have hung in there with me until my issues were resolved. Very friendly and efficient ! Absolutely no complaints from me. Great job every one !The outfit I came here from gave me nothing but grief and I left them within a couple of months of constant problems and system downtime. When I sent email and a letter to them canceling my account they did not answer. This month I received an email from that nightmare outfit stating that they were having difficulty renewing my hosted account… Hah ! They still are not listening.
HostGator… you are the best ! Thank you for all you have made possible. Thank you for true Service and for really caring.
I heartily recommend HostGator to all who need a dependable hosting service.

Hostgator Review by GetITCdot – Disappointed [resolved]
Reviewed on January 15th, 2009 Find moreWhen i first purchased my dedi it was for web-use only however about a month or two into it and i decided i wanted to run an IRCD. I contacted hostgator directly to make sure this was not against anything in the tos. they assured me the ircd was fine to run on a dedicated server only (which I have). I had the IRCD running for quite a while until they killed the PID without my knowledge and sent me this:
Our upstream provider has informed us of an ircd running on your dedicated server. They have informed us that this must be shut down at this time. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
Thank you for choosing HostGator and have a wonderful day!

Hostgator Review by Lincoln – SQL issues [resolved]
Reviewed on January 12th, 2009 Find moreI’ve been using Hostgator for 2 years or longer, but lately I’ve been disappointed in the support I’ve been receiving.
I noticed latency issues of a few seconds or more when my WordPress powered site attempts to connect to the SQL database and execute queries. Any cached page that doesn’t query the database loads just fine, so it’s obviously an issue involving the SQL server.
Yet the best support can tell me is that the server is fine and that I should update a plugin or run a query optimizer. Never mind the fact that I don’t even know what a query optimizer is, but is it really that impossible to figure out why it would take so long for the server to respond to queries? If I knew exactly what the problem was I could work to correct it if possible, but these vague answers are very unhelpful to say the least. Give me something concrete to work with here.
I suspect the server simply can’t handle the SQL queries sent, which I can accept if my site simply has gotten too big and now requires a VPS or dedicated solution to run smoothly. But it’s hard to believe two SQL databases on a low traffic blog could cause such a strain on the server, and I’d like to know for sure if that’s indeed the case, or if there is simply some server clampdown in place that is intentionally creating a bottleneck for my site, that once removed would immediately resolve the issue.
Either way, it may be time for me to leave, because if this is indicative of the kind of support I’d received with a dedicated hosting package as well (where even more hands on knowledge is needed), that’s a headache I can well do without.

Hostgator Review by burtf51 – Support..Live vs Phone
Reviewed on January 11th, 2009 Find moreI called support this morning because I couldn’t login Cpanel. The guy I talked to reset my password but I had some rookie questions I tried to ask him. He was very short with me and seemed like he didn’t want to be bothered with my trivial (to him) question. A big thumbs down!
Later this morning, I used the “Live Chat” and the difference was Daylight & Dark. The person I chatted with was extremely nice and addressed my questions with non-technical answers. Asked if I understood and if there was anything else they could help me with. A big thumbs up!
Conclusion: If the only support HG had was phone support and everyone was as pompous as the person I talked too, I would take my little business elsewhere.

Hostgator Review by ickb – Very Happy with HostGator
Reviewed on January 10th, 2009 Find moreWhen I first signed up with HostGator I ran into serious problems as nothing seemed to work and loading times were terrible. I even asked for a refund before 30 days expired and my account was not charged when I terminated my hosting.
Quite a few members helped me on this board including HG staff and I decided to give HG another chance… thinking the worse thing that could happen is I would terminate my account again. All the problems solved when I was put on another server.. ever since then I had added another account which has been trouble free. Loading times have been very fast and the webservers very reliable with no down to my websites
I have since referred other friends to HostGator and they have been equally as happy. Many of us were people who left the vDeck3 company.. We found that the HostGator cPanel, webserver uptime, reliability, speed, etc. is far superior to vDeck.
I had called yesterday about about 7p PST. I believe the Technical Support person’s name was Herb. He was very patient and walked me through the technical aspect which may have been just a PHP difficulty with the new upgraded cPanel with HostGator. Anyway, he helped solve the problem and was patient even when I called back a second time. Waiting time for technical support is very minimal. Because HostGator has been so reliable, I haven’t had to used Tech Support. It’s good to know Tech Support is there when you need them. It is also very comforting knowing that HostGator servers are fast and reliable… Upload your website and not having to worry about downtime like I had experienced with vDeck3.
Presently I am very happy with HostGator. I have been with HostGator for about a year. Keep up the good work HostGator

Hostgator Review by alex2435 – Real review [resolved]
Reviewed on January 9th, 2009 Find moreThe one who talked to HostGator support may have noticed that the same ticket is answered by different people. Each of them is interested in posting a reply but not giving an answer or resolving the problem. As a result, a user spends much time to solve simple questions. What is more, it looks like each member of HostGator’s support team reads only the last post.
I don’t think such system is reasonable.
