  • Google Apps, Email Login

Reviewed on August 31st, 2008 webhost Find more

I have a question regarding Google Apps when it comes to my email login. (Have searched extensively on Google App’s support, but to no avail)

I have created the email address kim @ kimstewart.ca through Google Apps and have set my MX records through HostGator. Propagation looks to now be complete and my emails are sending and I am able to receive. However, when I access my emails through the Google Apps dashboard, it takes me to this rather long and convoluted URL: http://mail.google.com/a/kimstewart.ca/

I was hoping to just be able to log into www.gmail.com and enter my email/password to be able to login. It this not possible? Or do I need to do some more tinkering from Google Apps in order to make this work? (I also have an iGoogle account I would like transfered over to my Google Apps email.)

I was very happy when I signed up for Hostgator Hosting. I was amazed by their deals and offers they gave me along with their freindly live support. I was happy when I figured out their hosting packages was very affordable! I will be glad to recommend this to freinds when they ever think of creating their own personal sites.

I just have to say. Thank you for all your help and your hosting so far, Hostgator.

  • Hostgator Review by tinggg – Hostgator technical support not as good as it use to be

Reviewed on August 30th, 2008 webhost Find more

I thought I joined Hostgator 3 years ago but I just checked and it was 4 years ago this September. At the time I did lots of research and Hostgator stood out for its customer service, which was a priority for me, so I went with you guys. At the beginning it was great and over the years I have recommended you to many, have an affiliate banner on one of my sites and I did this because I believed you were the best.

Over the past year I contacted you 6 times and I’ve noticed the quality of replies have really deteriorated by that I mean, you give the bare minimum of information, usually ‘read this’, usually require further clarification in another email and are generally not as helpful as Hostgator use to be.

Over the past 24 hours I have been involved in a very unsatisfactory experience with Hostgator – I was having a problem setting up redirects for a add-on domain and I thought this would be a common enough issue to get some help on…but no….

I won’t bore everyone with the details here but I lodged 2 tickets:
    1. CGS-2910793 where I complained about your live chat “technical support” where I was asked for my login and password followed by being left waiting for over 4 minutes on one occasion and other lengthy gaps, and then basically dropped by your rep. I provided the transcript of that. I then tried your live support again and unfortunately I haven’t got the transcript of that but it was similarly absolutely useless.
    2. MKL-2910786: this is where I described in detail, providing examples, of the issue I was having. 10 emails later what I should have been advised after my first email was explained to me namely that “Cpanel’s redirects are for plain file redirects” but because I wanted folder redirects that I had to do a mod_rewrite – an example was then kindly provided for me to replicate and away I can go.

If it was easier for me to go to another host then I just would, even writing this is a further use of my time but I’m not going to let it go without mentioning it. I am well and truly unimpressed.

  • Hostgator Review by brandon206 – Lovin it so far!

Reviewed on August 26th, 2008 webhost Find more

In the few weeks I’ve been with HostGator, it’s been great. My old host had some serious issues with the SQL server and connection to my php sites, but HG seems to be superior in that aspect. And every ticket I’ve opened were responded to within 2 hours… some within MINUTES! Fantastico is a wicked tool to install the newest CMS with zero technical knowledge required!

Another AWESOME feature was the site transfer. I had 30gb of files to transfer, which would have been a week or more of work, but you guys did it in 2 days.

    Fast transfer speeds.
AMAZINGLY fast service when a help ticket is issued.

Seems like I’ve found my host.

Only one TEEEEEENIE little issue: HG doesn’t seem to keep Fantastico up to date with the most current releases of CMS. Example is when Wordpress came out with 2.6.1… 2.6 is loaded, which works, but 2.6.1 fixes some big bugs and I wanted to just do clean installs of 2.6.1. No biggie… I just copied the new files over, but I just wanted to put that out there.

  • Host Gator Reseller and Dedicated Hosting Firm, Ranks on Inc 5000 List

Reviewed on August 25th, 2008 webhost Find more

Shared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, Host Gator, has been ranked by Inc.com, as the 21st fastest-growing private company in the country, on its Inc 5000 list.

Brent Oxley, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HostGator remarked, ”I started the company with a $1,000 budget from my dorm room in Boca Raton, FL. Today the owners of more than 1.3 million websites depend on our hosting service. We are extremely proud of our strong past growth, but we’re really only getting started.” Mr. Oxley, who turned 25 in March, attributes the growth of the company to its commitment to customer service and dedication to providing customers with the best web hosting experience in the hosting industry.

The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, for profit, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007.

HostGator revenue grew by 5297% during the measured period. In addition to being ranked #21 overall, HostGator was also ranked #1 for growth in the Houston metro, #2 for growth in the Business Services category, and #1 for growth within the state of Texas.
The Houston-based company had revenues of $18,700,000 in 2007 compared to revenues of $326,000 in 2004 and projects revenues over the next 12 months will reach $50,000,000. Since moving to Houston in 2006, HostGator has created over 155 positions for highly skilled technicians and systems administrators. It recently completed renovations to accommodate a large increase in hiring activity and expects to add at least 100 new employees in Houston over the next few months.

In January, after reporting a successful fiscal year, has given gifts to support cancer fighting initiatives, while promoting education in underdeveloped countries.

The company gave $100,000 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and $25,000 to One Laptop per Child. The gifts were decided upon by HostGator management and staff, including a significant contribution to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

In addition. HostGator donated to the international organization, One Laptop Per Child. The Anderson Cancer Center received a gift of $100,000 and One Laptop per Child received $25,000. The goal of One Laptop per Child is spelled out in its name: to improve the educational opportunities for children in underdeveloped regions by giving every child access to an inexpensive, durable, web-capable laptop. At $100 each, the gift from HostGator should provide at least 250 laptops.

The gift to One Laptop per Child was another easy decision, according to Mr. Oxley, ”If it wasn’t for the internet and computers we wouldn’t be in business. If just one of the kids can further their knowledge in computers and make a career out of it, in some shape or form, it will have been worth every penny.”

At Anderson, one of the country’s largest cancer treatment centers, HostGator’s gift will go to support a variety of programs — from research and clinical trials, to education, counseling and treatments. Mr. Oxley says as HostGator continues to grow and earn profits, it will continue increasing the amount of its annual gifts.

  • Hostgator Review by dodgeboard – My Opinion of HostGator

Reviewed on August 24th, 2008 webhost Find more

I’ve dealt with many hosts in the past. I’ve been with HostGator for over three years. There have been a couple hiccups that were related to server load and sql usage, but overall, I am extremely happy with HostGator.

I am on the swamp croc plan and my main site is a vBulletin forum for our local nastalgic, old western town of Dodge City. You know, the “Get the hell out of Dodge!” saying?

If I was forced to recommend an area of improvement, I’d have to say communication within the organization. In the past, there have been times when you work on one issue with one tech and another tech does something that contradicts or conflicts with it. Or you talk with one that doesn’t know what has already been worked on or determined, like they can’t access the customer history notes. I’ve heard that they have improved on this.

For the most part though, they’ve been real good to me. Recently, we had installed a comprimized script and were hacked by a porn spammer. HostGator helped us to identify the problem and guided us to rectify it. Their security and support staff is top notch!!

As far as billing, I have automatic drafting setup through Paypal. This has worked well for me. I have never had a billing issue or even had to worry about making a payment.

Uptime has been very near 100%. You don’t see that with other hosts.

HostGator helped us move from our other host and did virtually all the work for us. We find the cpanel, fantastico scripts and other features of HostGator to be worthwhile, useful and easy to use.

I would definitely reccomend HostGator to anyone looking for a reliable, easy, cost effective host. You wont go wrong with them.
