Hostgator Review by groovebox – Speed of HG is great when compared…
Reviewed on June 29th, 2008 Find moreI am positively amazed – I have a web hosting a/c with another “big name” hosting company and installed a CMS on it – all good. Loading posts was taking AGES – more then 40 secs to go to a page. Thought it was the CMS or corrupt database (MySQL) – same deal.
Installed the same CMS on one of my own HG accounts and it is like 1-2 secs average. Excellent stuff!
Emailed the other hoster who blamed my location (NZ) – my Mac and so on. Tried a few things including a completely different CMS – no better. Logging into the Admin of the CMS was 1:16! Standard HTML is fine tho.
They said they were not overloading their servers (total site weighs in at 60MB) but there is no real way of checking that.
I don’t know what HG are doing that is better – but – please – keep it up!

Ex-Hostgator.com Employee Accused Of Hacking
Reviewed on June 27th, 2008 Find moreHOUSTON, TX— Cliff L. Wade, a former employee of hostgater.com, has been arrested in Atlanta, Ga., following the return of a federal indictment in Houston, charging him with computer intrusion allegedly committed in October 2007.
Wade, 37, was arrested Thursday, June 26, by FBI agents in Atlanta and is expected to make an initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate judge there, where the issue of bond pending trial in Houston is expected to be determined.
According to allegations in the indictment, in early October 2007, Wade, a support technician employed at the Houston-based web hosting company, moved to Atlanta and began working for a competing company without ever notifying Hostgator that he had ended his employment status.
Web-hosting companies, such as Hostgator, provide server space, web services and maintenance for web sites of individuals or companies that do not have their own web servers. The government alleges Wade gained access into the Hostgator system and then knowingly executed several command and code functions to intentionally impair the integrity of the customer support network. Hostgator never authorized the execution or transmission of these commands. As a result of the intrusion, the defendant caused Hostgator to incur a loss in excess of $5,000 during October 2007.
The government alleges Hostgator’s losses include a significant loss of revenue and financial loss due to the damage assessments and restoration of the data and programs.
The criminal intrusion charge carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment upon conviction and a maximum fine of $250,000. 6-27-08

Hostgator Review by tad558 – Thanks for the help.
Reviewed on June 27th, 2008 Find moreI am a rather new customer and still getting settled in at Hostgator.
I recently put a small demo site together for a prospective customer and used a subdomain to set it up. Images on the site would not load when I loaded the site at times and then would load at others.
My old host would have responded that they did not support user programming and left it at that.
I got a very pleasant reply from Joseph V. describing the error of my way and what to do to fix it. The problem was related to the path I had entered. His solution fixed the problem and all is well.
Thanks Joseph V. and thanks Hostgator support.

first off they have always been up for me and been speedy since they day i signed up and i always get the support i need when i need
but something i have learned the hard way is NEVER call support or use the online chat just file a ticket at tickets.hostgator.com because the support drones cant help you
other then a few bumps with support here and there i would still tell people to buy hosting from hg

Hostgator Review by eugenec2c – Utterly Unacceptable [RESOLVED]
Reviewed on June 23rd, 2008 Find moreWhy are you guys keep suspending my sites and why your phone support and online chat support cannot do anything other than say that I need to e-mal support?
This morning I submitted a support ticket (GHV-2746696). I got an email saying that it was a duplicate of QBS-2734568, which it is not. But in any case, right after I got that email, my site was suspended. Why? I spoke with the online chat support and with the phone support and all they could say is that I need to emal support. This is my business and the suspension is costing me a lot of money. Why the site was suspended this morning?

Hostgator Review by Dazzozo – A late thankyou
Reviewed on June 23rd, 2008 Find moreI don’t post much but about two weeks ago my site was nearly destroyed by none other than myself. (Yes we’ve all done it…)
I installed something (basically a Mod) to my PHP MySQL site which kinda ruined it.
I had made a SQL backup, but when I went to import it back in to MySQL, it would not import, I panicked, the SQL script was about 1000 lines long, and MySQL had some crazy error, I did not really feel like going through 1000 lines of code, it wasn’t the best thing to do on a Saturday evening, so I contacted support to see if they had some magical ‘thing’ they could use to “fix” my SQL query, okay, I was thinking of every possibly to comfort myself in any way to recover the SQL, and, which surprised me…
One Gator admin got back to me on the ticket, saying he had corrected the SQL syntax and had imported it back in to the database after asking where it was meant to go, I opened my site in hope and… it worked!
I was amazed in that admin, I don’t know whether I’m allowed to give his name, but I worship him…
So, HostGator, you’ve never failed me! I only just thought of posting this when I remembered I had an account on this forum.(Sorry if this is useless to you, I just wanted to express my thoughts on HostGator’s service)
