Hostgator Review by kbs – After one month – wishing I could feel settled
Reviewed on April 30th, 2008 Find moreI arrived here one month ago after migrating from the worst webhosting company I have ever experienced (Ipower, which used to be good before they were consumed by Endurance International). Unfortunately, my experience here has left a bit to be desired, since my server has been inaccessible for a lot of the time due to a Denial of Service attack on the server.
I have been impressed by the loyalty of the Hostgator customers, and I hope that Hostgator, as it grows, will honor that loyalty into the future and not grow complacent. It will only take a few screw-ups to make a real mess of an otherwise good thing.
Hostgator can’t be held responsible for one of its servers being under DOS attack, however the response to the attack has been poor. Whatever monitoring the administrators do on the servers does not include monitoring whether the sites on a server can be accessed from the Internet. Consequently, much of my last few weeks has been spent reporting such occurrences to disbelieving support staff.
So this could definitely be improved. Apart from that, I’m hopeful of a brighter future, but not feeling entirely secure in my new home and keeping one eye on the nearest escape route.

Hostgator Review by Chris Souter – Help With Site Builder
Reviewed on April 30th, 2008 Find moreHey everyone, I absolutely love Hostgator, other than the fact I can’t get SiteBuilder to work! I get a problem with a Code 0! I tried contacting SiteBuilder support on the forums to no appeal.

Hostgator Review by macknox – Everything Still Works!
Reviewed on April 30th, 2008 Find moreI have a reseller account.
The most important thing about is all the scripts I use work with HG.Yes, I have experienced downtime… but so have I with another host.
It gets all resolved in the end.My only request is that HG does NOT upgrade to MySQL 5 as it will mess up my tracking script !!
My other host has everything ‘new’ – PHP5.25 and MySQL5 etc… but my ‘old’ scripts for tracking and cgi scripts are not installing at all… and my membership script is showing error messages.
So bear that in mind when choosing a host. New maybe good but it may not be compatible. If you make a living online Hostgator will give you a reliable platform to work from. It may not be perfect but its good enough for me… so far.

Hostgator Review by FortErieDave – One month review … so far so good
Reviewed on April 28th, 2008 Find morePros
- consistently GREAT response times vs other shared hosts I’ve tried
- reliable Wordpress install (saw endless Internal Server Errors on last host)
- quick and helpful support staff, both via tickets and live chat (one poor live chat experience)
- great value for high level of resources
- reliable IMAP email hosting (zero downtime)Cons
- brief outage due to flood attack on Day 4
- couple of “connection was reset” errors while working with my site
- brief outage due to heavy server loadBlown away with site response time at all hours. Pleased to see that all the features here actually work! Past host had parts of CPanel non-functioning. Also should say that support has been above average and have never failed to come through.
While I wish I hadn’t seen the outages or error messages, it would be nitpicky of me to say that it has ruined my experience. Know that dedicated is the only way to deal with my concerns, but that’s quite a jump in cost.
Here’s hoping the outages are kept to a minimum and the zippy load times continue!

Hostgator Review by Chris Souter – Attentive Support
Reviewed on April 27th, 2008 Find moreI signed up a few days with Hostgator and wanted to move a messageboard I owned from a free host to here. Although it took a few days to complete this, the support staff I dealt with were courteous and attentive. They were all keen to help despite the fact that my issues technically wasn’t their problem as the software isn’t supported by HG.
If I had one slight small criticism it would be to say that I sometimes got the impression that my ticket could be picked up by anyone in the support team and that support staff seemed to vary in terms of how much experience/confidence they had with the forum software I was using, and also varied with how much of a handle they had with my problems and ultimate aim – it would maybe be better if my ticket stayed with just a couple of support staff who had good knowledge of the problem and what had to be done?
But all were friendly and helped as much as they could. Hopefully I won’t have to bother the support staff too much in the future (just wait until I want to upgrade my messageboard to phpbb3!!), but I have a lot of confidence in their willingness to help.

Hostgator Review by voodoodesigns – happy……
Reviewed on April 24th, 2008 Find moreWell I was with GoDaddy and that was a huge let down… They are so locked down that nothing works there.
So then I found HostGator which I will say is much faster and better support however with that being said……
One of the main reasons I moved here is because we are trying and I stress that word “trying” to use OSTicket which you can install direct from Fantastico. The problem is that the software does not work. For one the version on there is out dated. However even if you download and insall the new version that does not work either. It will allow you to log in however as soon as you try to do anything it takes you right back to the admin login screen again. And to top it off…. Its random. So it might work for a day or so then it will not work again for 3 to 4 days. I have spoke with support about this over and over and over… I have also spoke to the developers about this over and over and over…
All I get from both sides is one pointing the fingure back at the other. Now yes I know this is a free package and that HostGator does not support this even though its in the pannel but what drives me nuts on this whole so called Fantastico thing is half the hosts out there use that as a selling point yet they don’t support the stuff on it and then they have something on it that does not even work and that burns me. The fact is, if it does not work then it should not be listed as thats the whole reason I moved here from GoDaddy.
I do not know if HostGator has any control over what scripts can be displayed in there or not but if so… PLEASE remove OSTicket as it does not work at all on here.
