Hostgator Review by Keith W – My Review
Reviewed on March 31st, 2008 Find moreI first came to Host Gator in May of last year to set up a project I was working on.
The initial set up of the hosting account went well, had some web sites imported and that also went well but unfortunately a few problems cropped up in some other areas and there were some problems with communications in getting things fixed in a speedy manner.
Unfortunately the financier of the project was not happy with this and pulled the plug and told me to ask for a refund which I did.
Just before I was told by the financier to pull the plug on the project Brent got involved and did his best to try and get the problems resolved for us and he also offered us a credit for our troubles but as I have already said the financier had asked that I obtain a refund, I told Brent this and he agreed to give us a refund and said our money would be credited to us within the next few days and he was as good as his word as sure enough we were refunded in full within a few days.
Now you may think this is a negative review but it isn’t.
I accept that is was just a set of unfortunate circumstances that led to things not working out when I first came to Host Gator for hosting.
Anyway I had never forgotten the professionalism of Brent at that time and how he went out of his way to try and help us, so much so that when my current project was looking for a home I had no qualms in choosing Host Gator for my hosting needs.
I am very pleased with my hosting, the set up of the account went very fast and smoothly and without a single hitch.
The speed of my site is excellent and I have experienced no down time what so ever.
All in all I am very happy with the service I have received from Host Gator and I have no problems in recommending Host Gator to others for there hosting needs.

Hostgator Review by wildbluffmedia – Disappointed & Frustrated [RESOLVED, Not Really]
Reviewed on March 30th, 2008 Find moreWe’ve been using HostGator since October 07 on a shared server. A few weeks ago our site had so much traffic we were capping out on our cpu limit, so after discussing options w/ HG we decided on a dedicated server.
There ends my previously happy experience with HG and now begins the unhappy phase.
First, after paying the first months “rent” I never heard anything back. Days later I finally decided to inquire and found out they had set it up days ago and I never received any login info, etc. They resent it (strange because I had never not received an email from HG before) and I got started having just lost $15 worth of rent over those waiting days.
I was transferring over a half dozen hosted domains from the shared to the dedicated. I submitted the transfer request. It was processed but only my files were transferred. My SQL db’s were not. Had to resubmit the request for those. That was done very quickly, but shouldn’t have required a second request in the first place.
When I tried to login to myPhPAdmin through both WHM and cpanel I couldn’t because the mySQL socket had been misconfigured. That required another ticket submittal. I actually called tech support first and was told I needed to email tech support, he couldn’t help me. So I updated an existing ticket, then after 3 hours submitted a new fresh ticket. Got a response back on the new one a few hours later and heard back on the updated ticket attempt 25 hours later.
So I was finally able to reconfigure DNS and import my db’s. I thought I was done. I was not.
Once DNS finished propagating I noticed my new dedicated server was terribly, painfully slow. I called tech support again. “Larry” was very friendly and helpful. He made a couple of suggestions (restart mysql, restart apache, lastly graceful reboot if necessary). Did all 3 and none of them helped.
I called back again. Larry kindly put in a ticket for me (strange how he could do it and the guy the day before couldn’t) as he was seeing the same terrible load times. I got a response saying I should disable certain plugins (I’m running WordPress). Despite my question of why this exact configuration was running flawlessly on a shared server and now not on a dedicated server I went ahead and tried that. No change.
I wrote back again on the ticket and was told it could be DNS and to give it a few hours. DNS was updated 36 hours ago.
I was also getting way, way too many “Internal Server Error” messages when I’d click on another internal link. When I sent that ticket in I got back “I didn’t get it.” No name, just “Thanks”.
I finally found a website response time test. bigbrother9.net took 38 seconds to load. DNS took 0.001 secs, connecting to the server took 0.001 secs, time before the first byte downloaded took 25 seconds, time from then until last byte was download took 13 seconds.
I’m getting similar/worse times on all the other sites on this new “dedicated server”. (amidolupdates.com, dwtsupdates.com, etc.)
I’m fed up. I wasted all weekend sitting around trying to get this server, which is costing me 10x more than the old shared server, to work.
How could my exact same configuration and sites run like a greased pig on the shared server now run like crap on my 10x more expensive dedicated server?
I’m disappointed in the ROI. I’m disappointed in the tech support. I’m disappointed in HostGator. My HG experience went from a 10 to a -5 in just one short week. Tomorrow I start looking for a new host if HG can’t make this right.

Hostgator Review by DontGetRolled – Simply Amazing
Reviewed on March 30th, 2008 Find moreHello everyone,
I will keep this short and sweet.
I have been with HG for about three months now, and have been with various other hosting companies which canont compete.
All I can say is that there has been no problems and the speed of processing tickets astounds me.
Cheers to everyone from HG you have made my life SO much easier.

Hostgator Review by bathk001 – Customer Support
Reviewed on March 30th, 2008 Find moreI just finished speaking with “James Z.” on the “Live Chat” service with a question that essentially showed my inexperience; he was very patient and I was able to resolve the problem with his help. I am very pleased with my experience so far.

Hostgator Review by dodaman – my opinion
Reviewed on March 30th, 2008 Find moreA few months ago I had gator move my site to their server on the swamp plan. I have a pretty busy forum with a lot of posters and was shut down the first week because of too much cpu use I think. Anyway it was my fault because the way the picture posting was running amuck. As soon as I made a few changes they turned me back on and my forum runs faster than ever with no more problems at all. I just bought a baby plan for a different forum that’s not as big, and I’m sure it’s going to hum just like the other one. So I have nothing but good things to say. As far as support I have needed very little but got a quick fix when I did.

Hostgator Review by joanne – My 2 year anniversary review!!
Reviewed on March 29th, 2008 Find moreIt’s been 2 years to the day that I have been with hostgator, after being with serveral other hosts (and many sleepless nights) and would like to say that I have had 730 peaceful nights since I have been here. It has been well worth the couple of dollars more that it costs me per month.
Excellent value. -
