Host Gator, Reseller and Dedicated Hosting Firm, Shares Revenue with Charities
Reviewed on January 29th, 2008 Find moreShared, dedicated and reseller web hosting firm, Host Gator, after reporting a successful fiscal year, has given gifts to support cancer fighting initiatives, while promoting education in underdeveloped countries.
The company gave $100,000 to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, and $25,000 to One Laptop per Child. The gifts were decided upon by HostGator management and staff, including a significant contribution to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Brent Oxley, President of HostGator noted, ”The gift to Anderson reflected a mix of the wishes of the staff here at HostGator and suggestions from our users. It’s pretty hard to find anybody whose life hasn’t been touched in some way — directly or indirectly — by cancer. We gave to them, partly because we’re located in Houston and some of our employees have had family members treated there, but mostly we gave because of their amazing country-wide reputation for treating patients and researching cancer cures.”
In addition. HostGator donated to the international organization, One Laptop Per Child. The Anderson Cancer Center received a gift of $100,000 and One Laptop per Child received $25,000. The goal of One Laptop per Child is spelled out in its name: to improve the educational opportunities for children in underdeveloped regions by giving every child access to an inexpensive, durable, web-capable laptop. At $100 each, the gift from HostGator should provide at least 250 laptops.
The gift to One Laptop per Child was another easy decision, according to Mr. Oxley, ”If it wasn’t for the internet and computers we wouldn’t be in business. If just one of the kids can further their knowledge in computers and make a career out of it, in some shape or form, it will have been worth every penny.”
At Anderson, one of the country’s largest cancer treatment centers, HostGator’s gift will go to support a variety of programs — from research and clinical trials, to education, counseling and treatments. Mr. Oxley says as HostGator continues to grow and earn profits, it will continue increasing the amount of its annual gifts.
Mr. Oxley added, ”As a company, we expect to go on making charitable donations, and letting our people decide each year where our gifts should go. We want the benefits of our success to go beyond our own narrow interests, so that’s why we’ll keep on doing it. Some other companies may donate for ‘political’ reasons, not because they really want to help — but that’s still good. Whatever the motives and whatever the amounts given, it all helps. The more corporate giving there is, the better.”

Hostgator Review by richinri – Experienced Webmaster Review
Reviewed on January 29th, 2008 Find moreI have been at this for 13 years, before people knew what websites were. I have been at hostgator for about 2 months and waited before saying this because I have been fooled by providers before.
If someone were to ask me today if I would recommend they host here I would say yes – plain and simple.
The support so far has been excellent and downtime has been at a minimum. So far I am very happy here. -
Hostgator Review by Gotter – My Review
Reviewed on January 29th, 2008 Find moreWhere to begin?
Host Gator Rocks.
My Friends and I are hosted by Hostgator, and we’ve never had problems. The Live Support have always helped, not that I needed it much. The Hostgator staff, I find are always there for you, even if you just want to talk for five minutes about webhosting and not your account. If they cant answer your questions, they ask their boss too! The uptimes have been really good, I thought they would be bad, but Im shocked. The only problem I had was with a invoice issue, and they dealt with it in under 2 minutes. My account never has any problems. If someone asked me to switch to their host, Screw em.

Hostgator Review by websmoken – The HostGator Ate Another One
Reviewed on January 28th, 2008 Find moreWe transfered to HostGator from Ipower after changes (I wasn’t notified before hand of) to my server that caused my shipping script not to function and errors to be generated. I was with them for about 3 years and had numerous problems with their support which included being on hold for hours on end with no one ever answering. Then I made a News Years resolution. NO MORE IPOWER!
I signed up for the “Baby” Plan for 3 years due to their “New Years” Discount. The main site “candlesbythecreek.com”, with the help from Jonsey in support (which was answered in 2 or 3 minutes from the time I placed the call), was up & running in a couple hours.
Transferring my other domain name websmoken.net away from Ipower/Tucows (which is not to be confused with the two happy “cheese” cows from California) was a nightmare. It was like they were playing “Keep Away” from Enom and I but after writing Tucow’s Compliance Officer, domain was transfered and in Enoms hands. I called HostGator support again this morning, kicking back ready to listen to a lot of classical “hold Music”. I’m proud to say the music was interrupted in less than 5 minutes with support answering. Now this site is up & running also.
I am looking forward to a Happier 3 years With HostGator.

Hostgator Review by SeanWT – Coming into my 4th month with HG
Reviewed on January 26th, 2008 Find moreWell, it was back in october when I joined up to hostgator. I had been with various other webhosts before, but was looking for a new home. I mainly wanted to host a small forum, but owning several domains (dont ask me why I dont really use any of them) I opted for baby croc, which was a very reasonable package in my opinion.
Bit of a problem at the start, the billing was unable to accept mine or a friends credit card, thought it might of been a bug with the system but the support basically told me there was nothing wrong and nothing they could do. I then decided to pay via paypal which did work in the end.
I threw up the forum, noticed an error log being generated whenever I hit a php page, some missing library, contacted support and fixed very very quickly.
Fast load times, no problems experianced untill a couple of months into the hosting. There was some performance issues with loading pages, was very quickly resolved by the hostgator staff, turned out it was a user being problamatic with the load they were creating. Month later, same thing, presumably a different use, fixed very quickly once again.
Now I may of focused on the bad parts, but these were basically the only things that have caused my any trouble in my time being with HG. The load problems were due to users, not hgs fault and they resolved it very quickly without fobbing me off (as I have other hosts to before).
It was an easy and quick proccess to get my jailed ssh aswell.
There is one chink in the armour however. ModernBill, I assume this is what caused me my initial problems trying to sign up with my credit card, but it has another problem which I found somewhat annoying. When an invoice is generated, im not told about it untill 5-6 days later. Not a problem for most people but for me it is.
Yes I am aware invoices are generated on the same day each month (tho I wasnt sure if that was the case before, not knowing if a month was defined by 28 days or what) and I should be ontop of this by now, but a little reminder on the day the invoice is generated would be alot more useful than 5-6 days later. I contacted support about this matter, since I have to pay using paypal it can cause slight problems. I hopefully wont be charged a late fee this month but I wont be able to pay untill the 30th, invoice generated on the 20th, and recieved the email on the 26th. (if I had recieved the email on the 20th, I would of paid on 23rd)
Not a major issue, but something other users should be aware of, as it has caused me a bit of bother. Was the support correct in saying that they cannot change when the emails are sent? I find it hard to understand why the emails are sent out so late.
But all in all I am very happy with HG. If the problems with ModernBill were rectified I would be alot happier however.

Hostgator Review by Reekun – Hostgator is newbie friendly and a dream host?
Reviewed on January 25th, 2008 Find moreI came to this site to make my website and all the tech mumbo jumbo had me bugged out
Not only was the staff friendly to a total newbie, I got responses from them very fast.
I had not experienced any down-time at all
The cPanel and all the gizmos are great
I will be returning to this hosting site for future business but my site isn’t big enough to need a demanding server yet
I have canceled my hatchling plan but I will return with a Baby plan or above because hatchling doesn’t give you any add-on domains, maybe when my website starts booming.
