Hostgator Review by Paul N – Server – Reasonable, Support – Useless
Reviewed on July 29th, 2007 Find moreI have a number of accounts spread across the hostgator network, all seem to be working reasonably, no real problems, except 1.
There is a continuous spam issue on the server, I do not have this problem on any of the others but host gator blacklist/abuse team are unable to do much about it.
I opened a ticket (TXS-304341) on May 8th and it is still open now on July 29th.
After a long time of dealing with one of the admins I requested for it to be escalated to his manager as I was unhappy with his responses, which were basically to remove the blacklist on the cbl and have it return as the underlying issue was not resolved. The escalation never occured and a month later the ticket has not been updated, which I’m pretty unhappy about.
The responses from the abuse/blacklist department seem to be to do the bare minimum possible and hope the client goes away, and if the client does not go away, ignore them.
I have requested manager escalation 3 times, once via the ticket and twice via the online chat support.

Hostgator Review by shell – Love Host Gator
Reviewed on July 26th, 2007 Find moreI have been using Host Gator since February 2007 and not had a single problem from them anyway lol. Ran into a few kinks importing my message board but the support staff was more than helpful in getting me set up. I have been recommending this to anyone looking for hosting. Great prices and great support what more could you ask for?

NOTEBOOK: League monitoring every game official
Reviewed on July 25th, 2007 Find morePINEHURST, N.C. – The fear of a gambling scandal was on Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford’s radar long before the FBI launched an investigation into resigned NBA referee Tim Donaghy’s alleged involvement in gambling.
Two years ago, at Swofford’s behest, ACC school presidents endorsed a proposal to secure background checks on all of the league’s football and basketball officials. That puts the ACC out in front nationally on an issue that remains a concern at every institution and conference in the country.
According to Swofford, the Big Ten is the only other conference doing background checks on its officials, though the ACC has gone the extra mile – hiring a private firm to dig into the backgrounds of approximately 225 men and women who officiate league games at a cost of $135 each. The Big Ten handles background checks in-house.
“I was shocked,” Swofford said. “It’s not much of an expense.”
Swofford said he doesn’t mind budgeting $10,000 to $12,000 annually for a service he called “preventative in nature.”
“I applaud commissioner Swofford for taking all the measures necessary so that he knows as much about his officials as possible,” Florida State men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton said.
Donaghy’s father, Gerald, was an ACC basketball official.

Hostgator Review by mdgshorty – My Review of Host Gator
Reviewed on July 25th, 2007 Find moreIts been a few months since I have been hosted by you guys and have loved it from day one that I came aboard.
First of all I gave it a try with my second website that I created when I came here.
My other website was still being hosted by Invision at the time which in a short time, I had moved over to this account.
Let me explain some problems I had with Invision as a hosting company.
The biggest problems I had with them was that whenever I wanted to ftp files, it always would time out and then there was the issue about the site going down constantly and drove me nuts. Then there was issue that subdomains didn’t want to work there. They advertised that they were able to have more than one website on your cpanel but that was not the case. You can park your websites, but that was about it. When I tried removing my second domain name from being parked, it would not unpark.

Hostgator Review by tek2dev – Support ??? bad
Reviewed on July 25th, 2007 Find moreFor the past two years things have been going pretty good until last month. Then support went downhill fast.
I have now been down for 15 hours for “spamming” and have not been told how or who is doing the spamming. All I get from support when they answer is they are working on it and it will be back up shortly. (They must been learning how to tell time from Microsoft). Support (or lack of) shuts you down with no warning and says that they will get back to you in 24-48 hours. Not a way to treat a reseller. Had I known that the support was this bad and the way they treat resellers was this poor I would have gone with someone else.
All I can say to anyone looking at hostgator be wary because if you can fix it yourself it won’t get fixed. The only answer I have gotten in the past 15 hours is to upgrade to a dedicated server to resolve the problem. The problem to me looks like they don’t know what they are doing and need to hire some real techs and not entry level people who can barely answer a phone or chat session.

Hostgator Review by afterfive – Awesome Support – Excellent Communication!
Reviewed on July 24th, 2007 Find moreI just wanted to take a moment to inform you of the great job your support staff has done for me. On 7/21 I learned that my dedicated server was subjected to a brute force attack which required a reinstall of the OS. Ford Merrill opened the ticket and took appropriate actions to back up my 175+ client files, got the sites back online, and instructed the oncoming staff as to the progress. Ford was not only responsive via email and the ticket system, but he also took the time to follow up with a phone call.
As the server was put back online, it was discovered that SSL keys did not carry over, Awstats and Horde mail all needed to be reconfigured. I had sent several other add-ons to the open ticket, all requiring a bit of back and forth for information. However, once Josh B. took over the ticket all remaining issues were resolved, quickly and with great communication.
As much as an inconvenience any downtime can be, I am still 100% satisfied with your service. In the past two years of being on a dedicated machine we have only experienced a total of 7 hours downtime, including scheduled maintenance. My hat goes off to you, your company, and especially Ford & Josh.

Hostgator Review by ViragoTech – Holey smokes Batman, HostGator is faster then lightening.
Reviewed on July 24th, 2007 Find moreHoley smokes Batman, HostGator is faster then lightening.
I have never, ever seen a download over 3.5k for very long then a few sec then it tanks hard to around 2.5-2.0
[In rural area with no option but dial-up]Unless there have been upgrades to the phone lines while I was sleeping Im amazed to see speeds of 6-11k for last 45mins, only dropped below 5k for a sec while loading this page.
Course I know phone lines are still the same. 1940 lead shielded paper insulated lines. Can guess how things get when it rains allot.
