After dealing with another major web host earlier today via live web help, I was absolutely delighted at the treatment I received from Host Gator’s support staff. Unlike the almost robot-like formality, broken language, and wait times I encountered with my other (soon to be ex) web provider, Host Gator’s representatives responded almost instantly and were friendly, professional, and easy to understand.
I realize I can’t yet speak to Host Gator’s other services, but I must say that I’m already quite impressed by their support. I’ve struggled many times in the past with my other provider’s so called “live help” so I truly appreciate what a breath of fresh air my HG experience has been.

The 24/7 Live chat they operate resolved all our problems instantly, as opposed to other companies that we use, who take a few hours to respond to emails.
Exceptional uptime and robust servers, Hostgator would be our #1 PICK if we were looking for cpanel hosting.

And despite the aggravation, I don’t have much of a choice but to stick with them. I’ve looked around…and at this point, I just haven’t found any other dedicated server provider that would fit my needs and budget.
Hostgator offers fairly priced “managed” dedicated servers with enough bells and whistles to suck you in. However, they seem to leave the server management to level 1 support. Trying to get things figured out usually requires restating your problem several times until someone who actually knows something about server administration gets your question. Through all the tickets I’ve placed with support, I don’t think I’ve ever got the same tech person consecutively. Why is that?
On top of that, tech support takes hours to get back to you. At one point I’d had my server down for almost an entire day before tech support did anything about it. I expect faster response time for my $220/mo. Is that unreasonable?

Reviewed on January 25th, 2007 Find moreI joined HG back on November 28 because I wanted to run away from Fasthosts. I had read Webhostingtalk posts about HG and live chatted with staff regarding pre sales questions. Within days I registered a new account.
I am truly impressed by the service. Somethin’ else, as Eddie Cochran would’ve said.
With FH, it took me several attempts to generate a phpBB backup. With HG it works straight up and fast. FH server speed was rather clunky, especially with php. HG servers are fast.
Uptime is great. I had 2 downtimes that lasted 10 seconds. With FH, support e-mails used to bounce back like “everything works fine for us”.
I was new to cPanel. I had a question regarding mySQL and how to connect using a software. HG’s reply has been clear.

Reviewed on January 22nd, 2007 Find moreOk, I signed up with hostgator again after they launched the new offer, I had an account with them in the past but left when I got my own server.
This is day 22 of the month and I host 3 wordpress blogs with hostgator.
One having served 200544 pages , one 188908 pages and one 92524.
I’m talking about +53.000 uniques served.
Bandwidth (this month) 29268.42 Megabytes (I might reach 40+GB)
Speed: excellent at all times, example: 19 queries. 0.123 seconds
Uptime: excellent, I don’t think I had more than 8 minutes of downtime totaled for this month and the other. The server wasn’t down, the only service that was offline then was Apache (down for upgrade as I understand).
Server load: mostly under 0.75 but it’s a dual xeon.
Support: Always online via livechat, your problems always get answered and resolved in a timely manner (less than 1 hour). In the past, the server where I was got in a spam blacklist and I emailed HG support, in less than 24 hours the server was removed from the blacklist. This can happen to anyone. I had no other issues.
Domain? Oradeanul.com (somehow popular Romanian blog)Would I recommend them? Yes, they are in my toplist.
Other hosts that I had or have account with and feel the same about: wirenine.com and webcinch.com
These 3 hosts (hostgator, wirenine and webcinch) might not get a perfect 10 but (they get a 9.8 ) they are the best hosts I’ve been with until now (and I’ve been with alot).__________________

Hostgator Review by ajhaji – Five Months of Great Service
Reviewed on January 20th, 2007 Find moreI just wanted to put in my two cents about HostGator. I’ve been with you guys for about five months now and I’m quite satisfied with the service. I’ve never received reports of my website going down, and the speed is usually quite good. I have not yet needed to contact customer support, which is a testament to how well the servers are maintained by your team.
If I could request one thing it would be an easier way to handle multiple domains, but I suppose this is a limitation of the control panel and not of the service. All in all, I’m very pleased. Keep up the great work, guys! I look forward to another five months or more with you.
