  • Hostgator Review by RCWong – My Hosting Experience

Reviewed on October 31st, 2006 webhost Find more

I switched from an unknown reseller to HG, just a few days ago. I didn’t really have a problem with my hosting from the reseller until my site was down a week. Reseller said had something to do with the hardware failing. Well it was a week until I said, that this waiting was ridiculous, reseller said that he was restoring accounts manually so that’s why it took so long. Well soon after I canceled with him, I started to look for new hosting. I went straight to hostgator because hostgator was my first choice when I was looking for hosting from the start, reason I didn’t go with HG was because the price for the “swamp” was $15. It was a little steep for me. Well sucked it up and bought a swamp account.

Their support during my short time here was excellent. Every ticket answered within a hour at most (These tickets weren’t very high priority) And if I had something major that needed attention and it was just taking too long, I would pop in to the live support chat and talk to one of the support team and they got right onto the problem. I needed the php memory limit upped, Put a ticket in, took a little long around 3 hours probably because it was my fault for putting a low priority. Just went into the live support and talked to them within 10 minutes I was installing my forums that I had trouble installing due to the limits.

  • Web hosting– be top of mind

Reviewed on October 30th, 2006 webhost Find more

You don’t have to make a better offer if you make it at a more opportune moment in your prospect’s decision cycle. The key is to be top of mind when they’re ready to buy.

One of the new wrinkles in BT technology is “retargeting.” In a nutshell, it’s taking a second shot at a prospect who failed to convert the first time around.

In recent months, eBridge Marketing solutions, a Canadian provider of internet marketing solutions has been using the Revenue Science network to serve ads to people who can be identified as having come to an advertiser’s website as a result of other campaigns, but didn’t buy. According to Hartland Ross, President and CEO at eBridge, the new ads — so far deployed for nearly a dozen web hosting and directory clients — build on previous impressions, although in most cases the offer price and terms are the same as before.

One eBridge client, HostGator.com, is finding the cost per acquisition to be almost 40 percent less than it has been for a variety of conventional “first attempt” campaigns. In the web-hosting space, where companies are typically willing to pay one or two years’ revenue for a new customer, saving even a few dollars can greatly increase profitability. Saving $50 or $75 per acquisition makes continuing the campaign a no-brainer.

In fact, Ross says, the retargeting campaigns have been so successful that the clients who have benefited from this retargeting strategy are now eager to invest in reworked and more highly targeted ad copy, and in augmenting the current text ads with banners that will explicitly acknowledge they’re making a repeat offer.

I had a reseller account that I used mainly for myself and rented out a couple of spots for 2 yrs. Recently have had several people approach me about renting space so I upgraded to a dedicated server. Hostgator made the transition for me and I did not even have to lift a finger. Their support for my dedicated server has been excellent so far.

I also rent from The Planet’s Insomnia365 line and currently have 2 gaming servers from The Planet. I can honestly say that I get the same service with Hostgator that I get from The Planet and most times better. Currently I have a support ticket 4 days old with The Planet and it has not been updated in 2 days so the grass is not always greener on the other side.

The 2 yrs I have been with hostgator has been a pleasure and I look for many more years to come.

  • Hostgator Review by crazy_boy – Extreme Server Load for Semi Dedicated

Reviewed on October 28th, 2006 webhost Find more

I already have a semi dedicated server on Hostgator from last 10 months… small problems here and there but all was fine but the problems started when I ordered for the second one .. I wanted to have it transferred from another Hosting provider…Since, I had my contract ending so wanted to move in ASAP.. But Alas.. Even before I pointed the DNS to Hostgator, I see the server load of over 8 and memory usage of over 90%. It really got me frustrated coz I could not afford to move my site sitting on such a server and loose traffic, which caused me to pay to my Old VPS to continue and also to Hostgator. I have logged the ticket for over 12 hours and waiting for someone to reply on it.

  • Hostgator Review by slopok – Had some major problems

Reviewed on October 27th, 2006 webhost Find more

I was on regular reseller account operating a site that was using alot of excess resources on the machine because of PHP quarries that were constant. This was completely my fault I must say. They suspended me the first time then reinstated me hours later after explaining to me the issue and telling me that I must fix the problems or they may have to suspende me again. My site ran so many quarries all the time that they maxed out the cpu and RAm causing issues for all other shared accounts. I tried to get my programmer to solve the issues but he was unable to and we were again suspended. Well after discussing it with support they allowed me to try again. My programmer did everything he could do but to no avale. We were suspended again and still are pending my moving to a dedicated server.

I do not fault HG at all and their support team was very professional with me and tried their best to help and allow us to try and fix the problems. For that I thank youu guys.

Even now they have been allowing me access to my site thru the cPanel but just have the site it self suspended.
