4-month hostgator review by fpscops.com
Reviewed on September 26th, 2005 Find moreIve been with alot of hosts in my younger day’s (ehost, canaca, ipowerweb just to name a few) and eventually worked my way up to multiple server’s at the planet. I keep an account with hostgator for backups and domain forwarding and basically just for me to toy with. Ive got the 15 dollar plan with unlimited domains. I just wanted to let everyone here know I couldnt expect more from a webhost.
When I first got the account I somehow killed a proccess on my home pc that wasnt allowing me to ftp to the site. Not thinking correctly I thought it was on there end, after me nearly getting rude with them and canceling my account I went out on a limb and rebooted my home machine. Sure enough it was on my end but the entire time they stayed respectful and offered as much help as possible.
Live Support seems like it is always online, the couple support tickets ive created always get a fast response. My account was overdue and suspended when I woke up this morning (due to account being linked to a credit card I cancelled this month). At 7:16 I payed and at 7:20 it was back online. Now this account gets very minimal traffic as im really the only one accessing this domain but still shows how serious they take this buisness.
If anyone is looking for a low-budget high quality host use hostgator. Ive yet to see them drop the ball

How to Chose a Web Host
Reviewed on September 21st, 2005 Find moreWith thousands of website hosts out there, it can often be hard to choose the one that will work best for you. With a little bit of work, however, you can pick out the perfect host.
Focus on Your Needs
What is your website going to do? Do you need alot of storage space and bandwidth? Or can you get by with just a little? Do you need email addresses @yourdomain.com? Or are you going to use a Yahoo! Mail account (or similar)? What about databases, and spam filters, and website builders?
Develop a list of all the features your site will use – this list will be your key to finding a website host that fits you. On this list, you also might want to include those things that you think your site will need in the not-too-distant future. While it’s not as hard as it used to be, switching web hosts can still be pretty complicated.
What Kind of User Are You?
Next, you’ll want to determine what kind of user you are. Are you new to the Internet? If so, 24/7 phone support may be best for you. If you’re a power user, however, you can probably do just fine with a host that offers only email or ticket support. The more you know, the less you’ll have to be in touch with your hosting company. Just make sure that there is indeed a way to get in touch with your hosting company if you need to. If you can’t find any contact information on the host’s site, this is a red flag and you should probably stay away.
You’ll also want to make sure that you will receive a response from your host in a timely fashion – having to wait two or three days just to get an email back is ridiculous. Make sure that your host offers a response-time guarantee somewhere on its site, before you sign up with them. If you can’t find it listed on their site, contact them and see how long it takes for them to respond. The ideal response time is a few hours – the absolute maximum amount of time it should take is a day.
Your Budget
How much can you afford to spend for your hosting account? As it is with buying anything else, you get what you pay for. That $1.95-a-month host may offer a really great value, but will they be there for you when you need them? Many of the ultra-low-priced website hosts are not turning a profit, and have not been in business very long – and probably won’t be for much longer. To check and see how long your host has been around, enter their domain name here: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jhtml. The Registration Date field shows when the domain name was registered, so you can tell how long they’ve been around.
That’s not to say that every low-priced host lacks. HostGator and Site5 both have many happy clients and offer prices around the $6.95-a-month pricepoint. And you can find good website hosts that offer service for $3.95-a-month or $4.95-a-month. But I don’t recommend going any lower than that. Judging by posts on online communities such as WebHostingTalk, going with a cheap host just does not pay.
Reliability
Another important thing to find out is the uptime of any of the hosts you’re looking at. Many hosts have an uptime guarantee that is usually around 99.9%. One thing you need to be aware of, however, is that this uptime guarantee does not apply to attacks such as Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks, or to acts of God. What these uptime guarantees do cover are things like hardware failure and server operating system crashes. If you can’t find specific uptime information on a host’s website, call them or email them and see if they’ll share this information with you – if they do not, move on to someone else.
Where to Look for a Host
Now that we’ve covered the basic points of what to look for in a web host, it’s time to talk about where you go to find the perfect host for you. There are many sites available for this, such as Cheap Web Hosting Directory, Web Hosting Directory, and Compare Web Hosts. You can also conduct a Google search for ‘website host’ or ‘website host directory’. In addition, visit a forum such as Webmaster Sales to see what other folks are saying about different website hosts.
Conclusion
The main thing is to pick a web host that you are comfortable with and that works well for you. You’ll know when you’ve found the one that’s right for you – it will meet your website requirements, you’ll feel comfortable with its support, you’ll know you can afford it, you will have confirmed its reliability, and you’ll know that its other clients are satisfied as well.

Hostgator Review by jeff_s – Six months and all’s well
Reviewed on September 4th, 2005 Find moreI have now been hosting with HostGator for six months and so far I am very happy. In those six months my site monitor has logged only one outage, that for about two hours in the middle of the night. That’s 99.99924% uptime over six months. So performance-wise, I could not have asked for better.
Support-wise, I have not needed very much. The WHM and CPanel interfaces work very well. When I did need support, the experience was not perfect, but was certainly quite decent in light of how little we all pay. And in frequently reading both the positive and negative threads in these forums, I’m convinced that I am hosting with an outfit which at least does care about the level of service perceived by its clients.
I think it’s good to read that management boots accounts that abuse their privileges. Each shared server is a co-op neighborhood of sorts, and bad apples in the form of spammers and resource hogs (knowing or otherwise) can quickly ruin things for the rest of us. I wish the neighborhood was better … It’s disheartening to see that well over 1/3 of the 1700 sites on my server are machine-generated sites containing no useful information other than SEO keywords, that exist solely to try to collect their $0.00287 per hit. Just sharing my IP address with them makes me feel cheap somehow. Oh well, hopefully they don’t use much bandwidth.

Hostgator Review by Blondy – Thank you, HostGator!
Reviewed on September 3rd, 2005 Find moreI have been a HostGator reseller & HostGator shared client for over 6 months now. Before I came to HG, I had been through no less than a dozen hosts in 8 months. Some were mighty, big name hosts; some where smaller unknowns. Once I got to HG, all my hosting worries were over, even for a demanding customer like myself. I have had the grand total of 2 experiences with HG support, all were quickly and professionally resolved. Other than that, I have had no problems whatsoever. Thank you, HostGator. I look forward to many more months & years as your customer.

The Planet Helps Growth of Largest Reseller Customer
Reviewed on September 1st, 2005 Find moreIn 2002, Brent Oxley was a 19 year-old college student working with high-traffic Web sites when he became frustrated with the hosting companies who provided unstable service, poor support and scams that ripped off inexperienced customers.
Supported by The Planet’s Tier One datacenter on which Hostgator has come to rely on for safe, secure and stable service since its inception, Hostgator continues to experience tremendous growth.
“The choice to utilize The Planet as our exclusive server and connectivity provider was an easy decision. The Planet is known as an industry leader. They go the extra mile to ensure 100 percent customer satisfaction and we’ve never been disappointed,” said Oxley, president and founder of Hostgator. “The Planet has no equal.
Oxley began his business with a steadfast resolve to keep customer service at the heart of Hostgator. Soon after he founded the company in his dorm room, Hostgator grew so quickly that Oxley made the decision to leave school and concentrate on his business full time.
Hostgator serves a critical role in the marketplace, offering more management on dedicated servers with a focus on reseller hosting for people interested in starting a Web hosting business, but have no idea how to begin.
“Brent Oxley is a fantastic partner. It is truly great when companies come together that are so fully aligned by vision. Hostgator stakes everything on its reputation of customer service, as does The Planet,” said Julia Estes, The Planet’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Hostgator Review by C.J – good work guys
Reviewed on September 1st, 2005 Find moreI just felt i should post my my experiences so far with HG.
I Joined about 2 months ago and had my account set up within 15-30 mins with no problems at all.
I just got around to moving my sites over from my old host this week and contacted support about a Vbulletin transfer…..they were right there ready to help and other than a few communication problems we got it easily done all in the same day (3 hours in fact).
I have to say i spent hours and hours looking at the reviews for hostgator before joining up and just wanted to add my positive one for others to read.
We all need to remember that in ANY business there are some employees who are better than others and spend more time with things………..HG is no different, some support members are 100% every night while others may not be……thats life…..we just need to be patient and work together to get the problem solved.
