Hostgator Review by TeddyKGB – Kind of in the middle on this
Reviewed on May 31st, 2005 Find moreI run a gaming site that has been open about 5 weeks. My traffic has been pretty slow for the most part but is starting to pick up in the last 10 days. I did notice as it picked up that we started seeing major lag on the server as well as crashes. I was on a shared server but figured that such a small load on the hard drive it really should not make a difference not to mention my traffic wasn’t great but it was there. I emailed the support team quite alot in the last week asking if the high memory usage and cpu usage was due to my site. I have no problem blaming myself for this at all. They fixed all the problems as they occurred and I give mad props for that, but they never told me if it was because of my site which I had a large suspicion it was.
Now as of this morning my account was suspended and my site taken down because of exactly what I thought. At first I just wanted my files, but after talking with some people we decided to go with a semi dedicated server package they offered. Yet in the email and I quote “Instead of just suspending your site we have moved it to a dedicated server giving you one week to decide what you want to do.” Now, the problem with this I was never given any new name servers and when you look up the domain, well the great suspended page comes up. Now I am not mad or anything but frustrated that it was all of 15 mins between email and taking down my site and almost 4 hours later I have nothing to show for it. Unfortunately in this line of work I can easily lose my players, I put the blame on myself for not knowing better but also I put the blame on hostgator for my downtime. There should be more time alotted for situations like this so people don’t take such a fall. A possible better plan? I mean yanking the site entirely is just not cool, at least give me some options and 24 hours to get it right or if it is such a problem then make the transfer so there is no notice of downtime.

Hostgator Review by vgascon – Very positive experience … one suggestion
Reviewed on May 30th, 2005 Find moreI have been with HostGator for about one month and have had excellent results. Two minor technical glitches I ran into were resolved fairly quickly.
I do have a suggestion, something that has been mentioned in this forum before. It appears to be a routine answer from Tech Support that “everything is OK on our side” after a problem is worked on. When asked for specifics on the problem, I was told that nothing had changed on that end. That is hard to believe when you have mailing lists that did not work for 48 hours and all of a sudden begin to work. Something changed that made them work — please! For you reference, the ticket number is HGSupport #HJP-38022-326.
It is perfectly OK to say that you don’t know what changed — you can even say that you simply do not have the resources to find out what may have changed. Those two answers are far better and honest than “everything is OK and nothing has changed.” That almost feels like someone is trying to hide something. For the most part, resellers are aware that this type of environment is a delicate balancing act at the very least, and that you at HostGator have your hands full sometimes. We can appreciate that and an honest answer.

Hostgator Review by Andeavour – Only good things
Reviewed on May 28th, 2005 Find moreI moved here to get away from Fasthosts, who charged me (as a reseller) £50 for every MySQL database my clients used… Not bad for a free, open source system. However since moving here, I have been so impressed I have been migrating all my clients over from Fasthosts until the only one left there is using a SQL Server database and can’t move (and is paying £300 + VAT every year for the priviledge).
I have been impressed with the support and help I’ve received. Considering I’m UK based and HG is in Florida, I have an easier time getting support than I had with Fasthosts (and their offices are less than 300 miles from mine). The live chat option is great, and so far I haven’t had a problem that wasn’t solved quickly and efficiently. In fact I’ve moved so many of my clients across I’ve had to upgrade my reseller account twice If I get many more I may have to get a dedicated server

Hostgator Review by kalepaigemor – Wow!
Reviewed on May 28th, 2005 Find moreI’ve been with Host Gator for about 2 weeks now and the service has been great! When I had trouble updating my dns they were right there to help out–even though it was not their fault. When I had other questions, their online chat was fantastic. Response times are quick and the help has been right on target.

Hostgator Apache Security Optimizations
Reviewed on May 26th, 2005 Find moreI’ve recently implemented new apache security optimizations to further protect our servers (and your web applications) from Command Execution, SQL Injection, XSS, and many other types of attacks. This will make it a lot more difficult for attackers to exploit any security holes that may be present in versions of scripts you may be using.

Hostgator Review by baronvonwalz – Excellent experiences thus far
Reviewed on May 25th, 2005 Find moreSince I’ve started my trip into the world of web hosting, I’ve had some pretty difficult hosts; downtime, high costs, lack of support. But none of these things have I experienced in my three months with hostgator.
In the three months that I’ve had my shared hosting package, I’ve had maybe two or three timeouts, which lasted no more than a few minutes.
A couple months back, when I needed them to change my domain name, I sent out the email at midnight, the change was done before I woke up at 8:00.
My only halfway criticism of them has been their live chat, but as long as you just use email, you will get excellent support every time.
