  • Hostgator Review by brudjazz – Aspiring Procrastinator wants

    Hi, guys! I had two accounts at SiteMount, but have cancelled with them due to their navigation just not being “easy” for me. They also use the Plesk software, which I came to quickly not like. I’ve always liked the CPanel software. I just wanted to say thanks for making it easy for us to set up new accounts (you’re probably thanking yourselves for that one, LOL) AND to navigate the administration tools. Hopefully, God forbid it ever happens, you guys make it just as easy for someone to cancel his or her accounts to move on elsewhere. We all know that Web Masters are the equivalent of nomads.

    I came to Hostgator in December. I spent months researching and corresponding with various hosting providers. While your liable to locate someone cheaper, you won’t find anyone better.

    History:
    * Been hosting since 1996.
    * Have used over a dozen different hosting companies.
    * Large member galleries. (2,000+ pictures and videos)
    * IMAP ’til I die.
    * Multiple domains.

    I have the ultimate test of a hosting solution provider… that would be my wife. She constantly taxes my resources to add more and fun things to her mommy group website… which makes them the second critical factor. While they are not bandwidth extensive, they are uptime critical. Since they have been using it, she has not gotten one complaint. Who says developers don’t work for cookies! I use a hacked SMF forum with a evite-like module that I wrote myself to handle their event scheduling needs with a bridged coppermine gallery. They love it!

  • Host Gator Review….. (bad) by Aestus

    First of all, I do want to say that in the last year or so Host Gator has been one of the best hosters I have been with. Very fast and reliable servers. However, just recently I’ve run into a problem with them that doesn’t seem like it’s going to be resolved amicably. I’m actually in their reseller plan, but this problem has nothing to do with the actual reseller account, but one of my client’s account.

    There seems to be a problem with running Mambo with Host Gator. The admin suspended www.wowmacros.com because of “server overload.” When the account was first hit with the suspension, I was told that the site was using too much resources and that I needed to upgrade to dedicated hosting. I knew this was wrong because there was only 200 users on at the time of the “crash” after peaking at about 500 users all morning.

    Before April 26, 2005 www.wowmacros.com was using the Land Down Under CMS with no problems. The morning of the 26 was the unveiling of the new site design with Mambo as the CMS. After about 2 hours, the site “crashed” and I get a message saying that the site was suspended.

    The online help at first told me that I needed to upgrade to dedicated. Shortly after, he declined to answer any of my questions and instead told me to email the admins ASAP.

    The first email I get from the admins are pricing for dedicated hosting plans. After sending another email about the problem, I get a very general and vague email stating that www.wowmacros.com had over loaded the site. I finally get the automated message from the server about the suspension with about 7 sections of MySQL code copy and pasted into the email as the culprit. Six sections of code was from the Mambo database and the last section was due to PHPBB.

  • Hostgator Review by jlgreer1 – TG for Hostgator

    I moved to HostGator last year when my old provider started having severe problems. It was a small business that seemed to be family run. I was sorry to leave them. They were small and resorted to “overselling” to attract customers which led to major problems.

    They recently charged my credit card for an annual fee based on an account I had with them which had been closed for over six months. I had to jump through a number of hoops to get the fee removed from my charge card. The old host company never responded to any contact. I tried their home page and it is now showing that they are bankrupt.

    The service and support here at HG has been excellent. The inevitable downtime and “gremlins” has been minimal and fixed as soon as humanly possible. The server load is conservative. The fact that they do not oversell was a major factor when I chose this company.

  • Hostgator Review by Dwight – Best Support in 10 Years

    Reviewed on April 22nd, 2005 webhost Find more

    I have been a webmaster for over 10 years, and a professional web designer for the last 5, and I have never, ever seen support like there is here. I have just signed up for a reseller account, and while moving a shopping cart I ran into a snag. Within one hour… not one week, or one day, one HOUR, support had my problem solved and I was up and running. Thank you very much!
