  • Hostgator Review by Dawn – So far, so good!

Reviewed on February 18th, 2005 webhost Find more

I’ve been with Hostgator since last year, and hadn’t really had any problems until I added a couple of databases to my site. After a few months I found the site was going down a lot and was loading pretty slowly. I only get between 1000 and 1600 visits a day so I was perplexed as to why I had to keep getting support to restart.

Support fixed the problem every time, but didn’t really give me any answers, so I decided to contact Brent. I was amazed to find I was one of the heaviest users on my server! I still don’t understand the ‘whys’ as I’m no high tech person. (Altho I assume it was the databases, especially the one for my gallery)

Brent was extremely helpful in putting up with my lack of knowledge and questions, and was able to sort me out with a plan that better served my fansite’s needs. Hopefully the folks on gator 8 will load better now I’m gone, and my site is definitely more stable on its new semi dedi!

  • Hostgator Review by Rendus – Love the service, some issues

I’ve been a customer for a couple months now, and haven’t had any real problems, and nothing that has required contacting Support before. Over the last few days, I’ve been trying to give someone FTP access to update parts of a site, normally not a big deal, but when I add an FTP account, it never shows up in CPanel’s FTP Manager section. I figured I’d give the live chat support a shot, and.. Well… Here we go, the log in it’s entirety:

Note that I didn’t end the session, and my internet connection certainly didn’t drop. Instead of getting an “I don’t know, please e-mail blah@blah.com” or even an “I don’t know, goodbye”, I get disconnected.

  • Hostgator Review by srider – 99.9 percent Good

I signed up for my Hostgator Reseller account about 4 weeks ago. I’m about to close the account, but not because of problems with Hostgator.

I’ve had websites online since 1996, and have often changed web hosting companies, in some cases when an awful big hosting company bought a great local one. I once had a web hosting account that got started when I drove to the datacenter and picked up a floppy disk with a TCP/IP stack I could add to my Winders version 3.1 PC. I’m old, but I’m not dead yet. (He says he’s not dead yet.)

I began my account here as a way of testing the waters, with a view toward moving my 45 domains from another web hosting provider. My account with the other provider is for exactly the same amount of hard drive space and the same monthly bandwidth allocation, but the Hostgator offering was $15 a month lower in price. Both accounts feature cPanel and WHM, and I would never go back to the dreadful Plesk manager that was foisted on me years ago.

  • Hostgator Review by tcwm – Good outweighs the bad in normal situations

Been a reseller for about a month now, so far experience has been fine. I came from an unmanaged dedicated server environment using plesk

    2 Major problems
    1) Inability and unwillingness to work with sending large mailings (opt in over 7,000) once every two months. I said I would spread it out over a week and they declined and weren’t willing to help or offer suggestions.
(So if you have a small business with less than 50 active members and perhaps not plan on emailing them all at once more than once a year..this is a good place for you.)
    The result of that was
They suspended my account with my initial mailing, me not realizing this was a major gator no no. Then was promptly called a liar by someone over there over a misread email (see below) , then apologized to later on, (which is inexcusible regardless).
    2) The tech support is fairly good, especially josh and justin (?). If you get a response from anyone else, resubmit it, save yourself a load of advil. The support emails are not copied in the original responses so it is a HUGE PAIN to keep copying and pasting multiple emails to different people.

Alright, Well, I’m just a small fish in the pond with a hosted account on HG, (possibly moving to reseller in the near future), but I simply cannot complain about HG in any way shape or form. Well, at least from my personal experiences.

I have encountered only one problem since i moved to HG, and that was my Registrars fault anyways.

Questions have always been answered in a timely matter, and when i needed something installed on the server it was done very quickly.

After having left the debacle that was Cyberpixels, I highly recommend HG to anyone.

I’ve been with HG from 11/2003 when it was smaller than today…I started with a small reseller account and now I have a “bigger” plan..

Yes there were times I was angry at HG for this and that (usually at your LiveSupport(this excludes SAM!!!!)) but at the end I wouldn’t change the host for nothing….the main difference between HG and others is that HG really cares about their customers, their needs…HG listens to their customers(not always …khm..khm… ) but overall does listen enough…thye don’t oversell…they want leave you in the dark…sometimes(but only sometimes!!) the explanations are a bit “strange” but the main point is that they “are”….at least you get some word of what is going on….

Brent will always post about what’s going on at the data center…new upgrades to the servers or network….

  • Hostgator Review by Ben – Hostgator– Solid as a rock

I’ve hosted at many other hosting services in the past and Host Gator is BY FAR the best I’ve had.
I opened a small Reseller’s account here in December, and I am VERY please with uptimes, support, and speed.
If anyone has ANY doubts about hosting or reselling with Host Gator, just go for it– you won’t be sorry.
